NIST Issues Draft of Critical Infrastructure Framework

NIST has released a draft outline of a cybersecurity framework for critical infrastructure. The public is invited to comment.

In February 2013, President Obama issued an Executive Order that charged NIST with developing a voluntary framework so that U.S. owners and operators of businesses that provide services critical to the nation’s economy, governance and our quality of life could adopt measures to protect their networked systems. NIST has held a series of workshops to engage with members of the business community to learn their concerns and best practices, along with releases of draft documents and public commenting periods. The July 2 draft includes an outline for the framework, a user’s guide, and an executive overview, along with a compendium of references of existing standards, practices and guidelines. To learn more, read the NIST press release.

The next workshop will take place July 10-12, 2013 in San Diego.
