A notice this week at FedBizOpps.gov is the posting of the official request for proposals (RFP) for the operation, management and administration of a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) in support of NIST's National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence.

The FFRDC will support the NCCoE mission through three major task areas: research, development, engineering and technical support; operations management; and facilities management.

NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) has proposed two new building blocks, one to help organizations develop capabilities for attribute based access control, the other to help enterprises address security issues that result from the use of mobile devices to access company resources. The NCCoE invites the public to comment on the draft documents. The comment period is open until March 28, 2014.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Maryland State House, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (Md.), Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, Montgomery County Maryland Executive Isiah Leggett and Maryland’s Secretary of Economic Development Dominick Murray joined Under Secretary of Commerce and NIST Director Patrick Gallagher to celebrate the signing of the Partnership Intermediary Agreement. Leaders of Intel, Cisco, and Hewlett-Packard, three of the center’s 19 National Cybersecurity Excellence Partners, also attended the ceremony.

Juniper Networks, Red Hat and Lumeta are the latest companies to become National Cybersecurity Excellence Partners. These organizations have pledged their hardware, software and expertise to the development of standards-based, example solutions to the intractable cybersecurity challenges faced by U.S. businesses. They join 16 other IT market leaders in supporting the mission of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at NIST.
