 In this webinar, the NCCoE’s Bill Fisher will demonstrate their Mobile Application Single Sign-On project, a reference design that integrates FIDO multifactor authentication (MFA) with mobile single sign on (SSO) for native and web applications, designed to help reduce the number of credentials PSFR must juggle and decrease time spent on authentication.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence has announced two new draft projects to identify and protect assets against ransomware and other “destructive” cyber events across industry sectors, as well as how to respond and recover from such incidents.

The NCCoE on Tuesday unveiled the two draft projects: one on identifying and protecting against ransomware and similar threats, and another on detecting and responding to threats. The cyber center will accept public comment through Dec. 12.

To help hotels and other hospitality companies implement stronger security measures in and around their property management systems, the U.S. government is asking companies to showcase their cybersecurity products and solutions. 

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) Nov. 24  invited organizations to provide technical expertise and products to “support and demonstrate security platforms” for the hospitality sector.

As part of a weeklong initiative called ‘DC CyberWeek’ (hosted by CyberScoop) to raise awareness in the cybersecurity community, the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE)—part of NIST—hosted an event called ‘Coffee, cookies, and cybersecurity’ in Rockville, MD on October 19th.

To help manufacturers mitigate security risks, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence convened a coalition of technology companies to establish standards to help manufacturers and healthcare providers strengthen the security of the wireless infusion pump ecosystem. The resulting document, “Special Publication 1800-8: Securing Wireless Infusion Pumps In Healthcare Delivery Organizations” provides guidance on how to incorporate technology considerations, including cybersecurity controls, during the device design and FDA review processes.

The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently initiated a project to show how multi-factor authentication using FIDO protocols can help mitigate e-commerce fraud. As one of the Technical Collaborators chosen by NIST to assist with this effort, StrongAuth modified the popular open-source e-commerce platform, Magento, to integrate FIDO protocols into the purchasing process as a proof-of-concept.

NIST has been talking with first responders across the country about what they’d like to see in wearable technology. 

Then early next year, NIST plans to begin testing products at the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Rockville, Md. About 20 devices will be tested, including both phones and wearables (headsets, smart clothing, body cameras, and heads-up displays).

As part of an NCCoE project, CyberX will be demonstrated in simulated manufacturing environments incorporating a diverse range of HMIs, PLCs, and OT protocols from multiple OT vendors. The project will result in a NIST Cybersecurity Practice Guide demonstrating how companies can strengthen controls with behavioral anomaly detection, without impacting the performance of their operational technology (OT) environments

NCCoE Security Engineer Jim McCarthy will lead the session titled "Convergence of Cybersecurity Situational Awareness Capabilities for the Energy Sector" at GridSecCon 2017 in St. Paul, MN. NCCoE engineers alongside former Department of Energy CTO Pete Tseronis, Eric Andersen and Mark Rice of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory  (PNNL), and Mary-Ann Ibeziako and Don Hill of University of Maryland College Park, Engineering and Energy, will share their expertise on Situational Awareness and discuss the recently NIST Special Publication 1800-7 that uses commercially available products to explore the methods for energy providers to more readily detect and remediate anomalous conditions and investigate the chain of events that led to the anomalies.
